Glasses-Free 3D, that you definitely don’t want.
Jan 15th
3D is one of the hottest topics in the electronics industry today, for the time being mainstream 3DTV’s require glasses, either active or passive. The Holy Grail of 3D though is to go sans glasses (AKA Glasses-Free, Autostereoscopic, etc.). Well this is definitely a form of glasses-free 3D, however it might make people think you’re winking at that 3D image of Megan Fox a little too much.
CES: Death of Active 3D and the rise of 2nd Gen. 3D (Passive)
Jan 7th
Something is very very clear at CES this year, Active 3DTV is sooooooo last year. Passive 3D is the new hotness and Glasses-Free 3DTV is somewhere in the future (though not soon).
I’m sorry to say, but if you’re one of those early 3DTV adopters that bought an Active 3DTV from Panasonic, Samsung, Sony, etc. etc. that technology is a thing of the past.
If you like going to movies, watching tv, even playing games on the computer, Passive 3D is clearly what you want….

Harry Potter and the Deathly Shallow (NOT 3D)
Oct 10th
Harry Potter is getting older and for the 7th Harry Potter movie, he’s a bit shallow. It’s sad really, I was really hoping Harry and crew would have some depth to create a truly compelling movie. What am I talking about here? If you weren’t aware the 7th movie, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows – Part 1, was going to be released in 3D. Warner Brothers this past week announced that they will be scrapping the November 19th release of “Harry Potter and The Deathly Hollows – Part 1″ in 3D, instead it will only be released in 2D. Apparently they won’t have completed the 2D-to-3D conversion by the November release date.
It’s also rumored that they will be changing the title to “Harry Potter and the Deathly Shallow, in 2D.” Click through to find out what went wrong.
Oakley to create 3D Eyewear, on Sale this Holiday
Sep 18th
Oakley announced on Wednesday that they have developed a 3D Optics platform known as HDO-3D. Their 3D Glasses will be the first with optically corrected 3D Lenses. Other websites seem to have interpreted this as meaning that Oakley will be making Prescription 3D eyewear. If this were true why wouldn’t they have just said so? I don’t think that is what they announced, I think they were announcing that their HDO-3D lenses have something similar to normal Oakley lenses.
Standard Oakley Sunglasses have lenses that have been optically corrected. This means that the light passing through the lenses isn’t being distorted, allowing the wearer to see clearly and accurately. If this is true, I’m excited to get my hands on a pair of their 3D glasses. I’m not a fan of those cheap disposable glasses (see below) that they hand out at the theaters, and if you have read this article from Better Housekeeping you wouldn’t want to even touch them.
Anyway, the official press release is available below the fold. Click through and check it out.

Vizio’s XVT, now in the 3rd Dimension & the Ultrawide 58" XVTPro580CD
Jan 5th
Vizio today announced at CES a bevy of new products that will be released this year.
First up is a hot topic, 3D. Vizio’s XVT Line will be upgraded with 3D, but I don’t know about you but 65″ seems a bit small, no? That’s why Vizio will be introducing their new top-of-the-line XVT Behemoth this August in a Svelt 72″ variety.
But wait, there’s more. If you act now not only will you get 72″ of your wall painted a nice gloss black, you’ll also get, Internet Apps, and WirelessHD! What would you expect this to all cost? $7000? No. $5000? No. This CES Special will be available for the low price of $3499.
As if that announcement wasn’t big enough, Vizio will also be introducing the beauty you see above-left, the ultra-widescreen 58″ 21:9 aspect ratio, XVTPro580CD.
