We here at SmashWire honor the innovator and change maker, Steve Jobs. He didn’t just create a world- he redefined it. He trusted his own genius and lived with the conscious choice to step out into the unknown. Steve once said that it is by living with the awareness of our own death that free us to be ourselves and give our gift to the world. Success, as he has shown us, grows through continued trial and effort. He showed us that genius is something can be cultivated and fostered, and wasn’t just reserved for a special few.
We celebrate Steve Jobs today for fearlessly leaving behind a life that has changed the world as we know it. We carry his legacy in our drive to live with integrity, reminding us that genius can be fostered and allowed, and isn’t something just reserved for a chosen few. We will miss you.

BRAIN BONER! Ghost Town to Test Renewable Energy

What is it about a ghost town that is so damn intriguing? You just can’t help but contemplate what transpired for a town once full of citizens to suddenly up and go. Looks like the next spot for future green testing will look a lot less like TRON, and a lot more like a ghost town in New Mexico. Huh?
The Center, as it will be called, will invest $200 million into the 20 square-mile city, and plans to be the test grounds for energy infrastructure, smart grids, traffic systems, wireless networks and more.*
The Center will be home to many houses, highways and commercial buildings, and plan to build structures to mock various styles, both old and new to make it seem more “realistic”. Those embarking on this project say it will be the first of its’ kind- allowing private companies and research institutions to test new technologies in a real-world setting.
CEO Bob Brumley claims that it will still be a few months until everything is final, and although no humans will be living there- the city will be conducted just as real people were using it. Puts a whole new-age meaning to ghost town, doesn’t it?
The future is RAD.

Google Gaming?

I called that Google was up against China for world dominance about a year ago. So far- I’m still on track.
Google strikes again, and this time rumor has it they are developing a gaming console using Google Chrome, and similar features in the Android marketplace. A few clues are leading other curious minds to ask the same thing. According to Phandroid.com Googles been dropping some hints including:
- Last year, Google bought into game company Zynga, investing $100 million
- GTVsource reports that Google is currently seeking a Project Manager and Developer Advocate that are gaming related positions.
- GTVsource also confirms that Google TV will receive an overhaul at Google IO to include increased performance, improved UI and… Android apps.
Channeling Spielberg with YOUR IPAD

Sure, I suppose it makes sense that Apple is now the most valuable company in the world. Yes, that is now a fact. Thanks to their ingenious inventions with various uses- all it takes is the right tool or enhancement and next thing you know- you’re directing a movie with your iPad.
That’s now possible, thanks to the Movie Mount- an attachable case for the iPad 2, which allows you to add additional functions the the original video abilities. I bet you wanted a wide angle lens for that sick car explosion scene? Done. You can also attach your own mic to the mount, allowing better audio that the standard mic on the iPad. This ain’t your grandma’s home video.

Let’s be cautious to say that you’re not gonna be the next M.Night StartsWithanS if you’re shooting anything that’s supposed to have a distinction of legitimacy. But when it comes to creating those Waynes World spoof videos in your basement? Game on.

Finger on the PULSE- Get this APP

I’d like to think of myself as a successful hunter and gatherer in the app forest, and have recently stumbled the best free app. Forgive the awkward metaphor- it’s Labor Day, and my brain is still on standby.

Pulse aggregates sources of online content into a scrollable, graphic story feed. With intuitive design and an extensive selection of sites to add, it provides all the headlines your heart desires without the hassle of going to each site separately. Creators of the app say that the inspiration of Pulse was “bourne out of frustration with the news reading experience on mobile devices.”
A tap on the headline brings you to a summarized story and another tap will lead you to the origin of the article. When adding sources, several recommended choices will appear as well as a search option or the ability to choose most popular topics in a given field (i.e: Top Tech Stories).
Apparently I’m not the only one who found it worthwhile. Pulse was selected as “one of 50 apps in Apple’s App Store Hall of Fame and named one of TIME’s top 50 iPhone apps of 2011.” Sweet.

Apple employees= Lushes?

Maybe it’s time for Apple employees to consider less tequila and more…what’s the word…responsibility? CNET confirmed the news yesterday that an iPhone 5 prototype was left behind at Cava22, a Mexican restaurant in San Fran’s Mission District. Before we go further to accuse the lush employee, let’s reconsider the facts.

According to CNET, the iPhone 5 prototype was left at the bar and then sold via Craigslist for the deal of a century at 200 bucks. Let us not forget when Gizmodo dropped $5,000 or the iPhone 4 prototype last year. Two hundo was all you could get? The device was tracked to the home of Sergio Calderon, who denied to have any knowledge of the phone, but was indeed throwing a couple back at the same tequila bar the night it went missing. With a name like Sergio Calderon, I could have told you that.
Apple employees/SF Police* turned up to search Calderon’s house and garage, offering him a cash reward to the tone of 300$. Alas, nothing was found. One additional shady factor was Apple’s senior investigator Anthony Colon*, a former member of the San Jose Police Department, showed up with 5 other “San Francisco Police” for the search. Were they just Apple employees posing as police? To make matters worse, after the report appeared, Colon deleted his LinkedIn profile. I’m not a pro, but something about that smells illegal.
The details are still rather vague as the facts are based on one unnamed source and no official photos have been leaked as of yet. According to the reports, the SF Police are starting to investigate who actually showed up to search the home with investigator Anthony Colon.

As augmented reality is now hitting the consumer marketplace, we are coming into an era of BADASS. An era of refined technology. An era of turning that sick UFO T-shirt into a video game that shoots spaceships! Yes, I’m serious. This creation comes from Zapparell and Hybrid Apparrel, and has 20 more like it. To give you a better idea- the subject stands in front of your tablet or Android device, as you scan the T-shirt. From there, on the tablet you play a game via your tablet and the shirt itself.
