The Last Lecture and Randy Pausch
The most powerful book that I’ve read so far this year was “The Last Lecture” by Randy Pausch.
Randy Pausch was a Computer Science Professor at Carnegie Mellon when he was diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer. He was given 3 to 6 months to live. About a month into it he gave his “Last Lecture” and the subject of his lecture was “Really Achieving Your Childhood Dreams.”
His lecture was so powerful that is was written into a book. This book has since become a New York Times #1 Best Seller. He was invited onto the Oprah show to give his lecture again. Randy Pausch recently lost his struggle against cancer and passed away on July 25th.
Having read this news it caused me to recall his book. Early the following week I received an email, from iTunes. It was marketing iTunes U. I thought I’d check it out. I looked around, checked out what my old university (ASU) was teaching, and then I ran across something interesting. It was a recording of Randy Pausch’s Last Lecture. The one he gave at Carnegie Mellon on “Really Achieving Your Childhood Dreams.”
I felt both the book and now the lecture and wanted to share it with you all. To download Randy’s, “Really Achieving Your Childhood Dreams” Lecture click the iTunes Link below.
The lecture is truly incredible, thought provoking, and heartfelt. Through the entire lecture Randy has many great lines to inspire you by. My personal favorite:
“The brick walls aren’t there to stop you. The brick walls are there to stop the other people.”
If you haven’t read the book you should check it out. It’s a great and quick read. At the very least, watch the video, it’s free.
