War on Scientology

Published by Colin Smith at 11:33 pm under Uncategorized

So for the last few weeks I have been reading all the posts on digg.com about the “War on Scientology” by the group known as Anonymous. While I’m not on the side of Scientology, I’m also not on Anonymous’ side.

Scientology has some very shady practices, as seen from the non-Scientologist perspective. I admit I know very little about the so called “Religion”. I currently don’t buy it, but if somebody wants to believe it good for them. The one problem I have is when Scientologists say, “You’re either with us, or against us.” (Tom Cruise, Scientologist ). Based on Tom Cruises statement and what I said above, I apparently am against Scientology. This to me sounds very much like the words from another well known person and greatly hated person, George W. Bush. Who is equally notorious for alienating people with similar statements about other countries.

If you watched the video of Scientology Pope Tom Cruise link above, any normal person will see they are not of right mind. I mean seriously. How can you expect the rest of the world to get behind you about saving it, when in their own videos they are clearly communicating the “My way, or the highway” philosophy.

The world is not Black and White. There are many shades of grey. You can agree to disagree and get along with each other, respecting each others views. Hell my mom and dad have different political views. One is a Democrat and the other is a Republican. They have been happily married for almost four decades now.

To be fair I have problems with other religions. When they send out their congregation to recruit their friends and anybody they meet, by asking things like, “Have you found Jesus?” There are better ways of approaching the subject, it’s called tact. I respect your views and hope you find peace, my only hope is that you wish the same for me.

Scientology is a very shady group, with personal curiosity and a bit of Googling, I can’t believe it’s a religion. When the recruiter at the local Scientology Churches essentially get a kickback for every paying member, something is very messed up. It sounds like a pyramid scheme, okay well maybe not completely, but it definitely is just a business with a sales force that gets a commission. Not a religion.

Now where did this group called “Anonymous” come from? Apparently they have to stay anonymous because The Church of Scientology is notorious for attacking anybody who questions them. They use endless attacks from lawyers and apparently personal threats to get the questioners to back down. So in order to not put the members future at risk they go by, anonymous.

Here’s the problem. Some of their tactics are no better than that of Scientology’s. They have been bombarding Scientology’s websites so that they become nonfunctional and other online hacking related attacks.

This past weekend they used the smartest tactic possible, organized peaceful protests, outside the offices of Scientology in all the large cities around the world. If they keep doing that, it will get the media’s attention. Which will get them to do real investigative research on the group. This information would be shared and Scientology would have more than just an anonymous group to answer to, they’d have the government knocking at their door.

Then again, Scientology could just as easily save themselves from all the attacks by learning Tolerance and changing some of their practices (not their beliefs) and turn the other cheek.
