TIP: Quick iPhone & iPod touch Music Controls
Did you know that there is a quick way to control the music on your iPhone or iPod touch without unlocking the screen? Here’s How:
Problem:
One of the biggest issues I had with the iPhone and iPod touch when it first came out was that in order to control the music playing when playing music you had to unlock the screen. Which, if you had Passcode Lock on, meant you would have to go through the following steps to change or pause the music:
- Hit the screen or home button. (To activate screen)
- Slide to unlock.
- Enter the Passcode to unlock it.
- Pause or control the music.
With a good old fashioned iPod classic, a with scroll wheel, all you had to do was hit the control button you wanted. Simple. Quick.
Solution:
Don’t fear however, the solution has been provided, by Apple with a simple software update. If you have kept your iPhone or iPod touch software up to date, you already have it. If not, you will at least need iPhone software version 1.1.1. For you iPod touch users you’ve had it since the day it was release to control away.
- Double-Tap the Home Button. (To activate the music menu)
-Hit the Home Button 2 times in less than a second. - Play/Pause or control the music.
The music controls will appear just below the time. You can control, “Play/Pause”, “Forward”, and “Reverse” the music. All without unlocking the device.
If you want to change albums, playlists, etc. you will still need to unlock the phone.

Thank you so much. I accessed these controls once - by accident - and I have been trying to figure it out again.
